“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.” -Rachel Carson, Silent Spring
We Are Still Here.
In these unsettled times, the benefits of immersion in the natural world remain immeasurable. Understanding that, Merck Forest & Farmland Center will continue to allow access to our trails, fields and forests. As the situation evolves, we will update this page with any new developments regarding access and programming.
While the property and trails will remain open to the public from dawn until dusk, all buildings at MFFC — including the Visitor Center, sap house, barns and cabins — will be closed until further notice. While there will be access to an emergency phone on the back porch of the Visitor Center, visitors should not count on the availability of MFFC staff during this time. MFFC asks that visitors to the property adhere to recommendations concerning social distancing issued by WHO, CDC, and/or VT DOH.
Programs and Overnight Stays at MFFC:
All programs, workshops, and cabin reservations through April 12th are cancelled. MFFC staff will reach out to all participants that have booked cabins and/or pre-registered for impacted events and workshops to issue a refund; all reservation-change fees are waived. As April 12th approaches, MFFC staff will assess whether continued cancellations are in order.
Staying in Touch
During this period, MFFC staff will be on property for essential functions only. All phone and web systems will remain open at MFFC and be checked regularly. On-line booking and registration will be available beyond the April 12th cancellation window, and on-line syrup orders will be processed on a weekly basis.
Knowing that many families now find themselves at home together for an extended period, MFFC will be increasing our digital outreach to share ideas and resources related to outdoor play and learning. #natureisstillopen
