Winter Animal Tracking: The Basics

Join experienced tracker Vincent Walsh for a day of animal tracking. The first of two exciting tracking workshops, you;ll learn the basics of track identification with the aid of plaster casts and full mounts, as well as field tracking principles. This course will give you basic skills and open your mind and eyes to the many possibilities of tracking enjoyment. You will begin to understand how a tracker thinks and sees. You will find, identify and interpret the tracks and other sign left by animals here in the north country. At the same time, you will sharpen your senses, obtain a more thorough understanding of the natural world, and enjoy the winter weather- all while being entertained!

Winter Animal Tracking: Beyond The Basics

Join master tracker Vincent Walsh. In the second of two tracking workshops, we'll expand on the basics of tracking, exploring, the more intricate details of gaits (locomotion) and scat identification. You will see our natural world through new eyes, by evaluating the scene, sign, and activity. With more field time, priceless experiences will be gained finding, identifying and properly interpreting the tracks and sign left by animals and others. **Attendance of basic tracking workshop, or having prior experience recommended, but not required.

Knitting for Everyone!

March 30th: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
These workshops are designed for the beginner just getting started or for the more advanced. Have a problem pattern? Don't know how to finish off your project? Lois Dansereau has taught many knitting courses and with the help of experienced knitter Margaret Mertz will guide you with patience and humor. Beginners can bring size 6 needles and a ball of sport weight cotton to make a washcloth. Lois is able to teach the most experienced and will also cover the basics, finishing, making your own designs, both the European and American methods, knitting with more than one color, different stitches, and more. Come, have fun and learn! This workshop is free and open to the public!

Pack Basket Making

April 10: 9 AM until 4 PM
Bliss McIntosh has been weaving baskets from natural materials for the past 25 years. In this workshop, she guides participants in weaving a 12 to 14 inch high pack basket from flat reed in the style of the old Adirondack splint back pack. Each person should bring a sturdy pair of scissors, flexible tape measure, pencil and 10 spring-type wooden clothes pins. Bring a bag lunch.
